2024 was a landmark year for the World Knife Throwing League. We welcomed thousands of competitors from around the world, hosted over 30 tournaments, and saw an amazing jump in skill across the board! Here’s some interesting stats we pulled from our year of league play!
Leagues
Membership for affiliated venues was steady this year. The amount of participants was about the same as last year but it wasn’t a major decline either as many expected. This year we also have 12 new affiliates in Canada and the USA joined bringing our total number to 221 affiliates. Tournaments
This year, there were 30 bid tournaments for WKTL hosted by amazing affiliates, There was also the World Knife Throwing Championships in Tulsa for the 2023 year, all of these tournaments combined have an estimated attendance of almost 1000 throwers.

Year End Official League Stats
These stats are compiled only with information from the official leagues. So while this is already impressive there are dozens of tournaments and unofficial leagues in addition to these numbers presented.

34,818 Matches Played – 2,487 Throwers – 348,180 Knives Thrown
Collective distance walked in lanes
Considering the number of matches and that two people is playing each, that’s 69,636 individual times walked back and forth from the target each time. In each of those matches from both distances, an individual walks 105ft per match. 210ft per match for both players
29,247,120 feet walked all year in the lanes which is 5539.23 miles
That’s about the round-trip migration distance of Monarch Butterflies. You could walk 80% of the way around the Moon in that distance and it’s the equivalent 1007 Mount Everests on top of each other!

Goals for Next Year
In 2025, we aim to continue league growth, we’re at an exciting time where there’s a lot of potential to change things for the better so we’re going to be working on updates to the rules with the WKTL Council to keep our competitions fresh. Our focus on sustainability will also guide operational improvements. We also will be looking forward to an exciting new revisit of the U.S. Open in a new sports event hosted in partnership with a well-established sports organization so be on the lookout for information about that in the new year!
