Every WKTL-certified judge has completed the league’s certification program and upholds a single standard for fair, consistent officiating at sanctioned events.
THE STANDARD BEHIND EVERY SCORE
Sanctioned play only counts when it is officiated to the same standard everywhere it happens. Certified judges are the people who make that possible — they run the lane, apply the rules the same way for every thrower, and confirm the scores that feed the WKTL rankings. Certification is what tells competitors and affiliates that an event was called fairly and by the book. The rules those judges apply are published in full in the official WKTL rulebook.
What a Certified Judge Does
Score Sanctioned Events
Officiate league nights and tournaments to WKTL standard, confirming each throw so results count toward the official rankings.
Interpret the Rules
Apply the rulebook consistently across No Spin, Rotational, and Distance — the same call for every thrower, every time.
Handle Challenges & Rethrows
Rule on close scores, resolve disputed throws, and authorise rethrows under the conditions the rulebook sets out.
Uphold Fair Play
Keep the lane safe and the competition impartial, so every result reflects the throw and nothing else.
BECOMING A CERTIFIED JUDGE
Certification is open to throwers and officials who want to run sanctioned play to the league standard. At a high level, the path looks like this:
- Study the official WKTL rulebook until you know the scoring, disciplines, and lane procedures cold.
- Complete WKTL judge certification to demonstrate you can apply the rules consistently.
- Officiate at sanctioned events, putting the standard into practice on the lane.
Requirements evolve as the sport grows, so exact program details are provided directly by WKTL — contact the league for the current process. Certified judges are also expected to stay current as the rulebook is updated, so their calls always reflect the standard in force.
